Position Summary

The Member Relations Manager's primary role is to acquire and manage effective revenue yielding relationships with C-suite decision makers at targeted companies throughout the state.  The position is responsible for all components of the membership recruiting cycle; from identifying prospective member companies, executing sales activities to secure investments, to managing member relationships.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Majority of duties performed, but not meant to be all inclusive nor prevent other duties from being assigned, as necessary. 

Membership and Sponsorship Acquisition:

  • Utilize Chamber's standardized sales processes and recruiting techniques to prospect, follow-up, sell memberships, and achieve sales quota.
  • Primarily drive membership and sponsorship through proactive prospecting activities via outbound telephone calls and email; along with occasional face to face meetings.
  • Establish positive relationships with business leaders, gauge their needs, and make connections to Chamber programs and resources that correlate to their business objectives.
  • Serve as the broker between prospective member and Chamber leadership, staff, and volunteers to achieve desired business outcomes and drive sales goals.
  • Responsible for achieving all monthly sales activity minimums including an average of 40 telephone call attempts per day.
  • Reliably carryout all four components of the NC Chamber personal performance management process.
  • Consistently maintain detailed records of prospective member contacts and activities in Atlas.
  • Attends NC Chamber events, secures promotional materials needed, coordinates participation, and discusses NC Chamber value proposition at NC Chamber exhibit table.


Relationship Management

  • Expand and maintain relationships with each new and assigned member to renew and upgrade investments.
  • Identify and prioritize members for potential investment upgrades each month.
  • Provide NC Chamber introduction and on-boarding to new members and new prime contacts with a goal of increasing the number of engaged contacts at each member organization.
  • Develop deep knowledge of assigned members' lines of business and the issues they care about.
  • Uncover and internally communicate member success stories that build our brand and increase engagement with members.
  • Consistently maintain detailed records of member contacts and activities in Atlas.
  • Fosters opportunities for member upgrades by communicating member expectations and goals internally to ensure engagement throughout the year.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities

  • Works collaboratively within the organization to consistently improve how we deliver and communicate a compelling value proposition and increase member engagement.
  • Attends Chamber staff meetings and training as required.
  • Work independently and as a team member aiding staff members with projects/work as assigned by VP Membership.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by VP Membership.

Minimum education, experience, technical and communication skill levels, licenses and certificates normally required to perform the duties of this position.

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule as needed.
  • Required to have reliable transportation, a valid driver's license, and must be insurable.

Preferred Knowledge and Motivation

  • Knowledge of North Carolina government and politics.
  • Knowledge of the legislative issues associated with our Advocacy efforts with ability to distinguish which issues are most likely to affect various employers/industries.
  • Ongoing commitment to learning about the work of the Chamber so it can be communicated in a simple but effective manner.
  • Interested in current events and business/financial news in North Carolina; and the potential impacts for people and employers.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree preferred. 3+ years' experience in a business development, sales, fundraising, industry environment. Political and/or government engagement/ experience are a must.
