Cato Research is a full-service contract research and development organization with international resources dedicated to helping pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies efficiently and expeditiously navigate the regulatory approval process in order to bring new drugs, biologics, and medical devices to the people who need them. Cato is a non-laboratory environment. 

We are currently recruiting a Proposal Associate for our Durham, NC location.  This position is responsible for development of proposals including analyzing competitive and feasibility criteria, proposal management from planning to award, and results and goal performance reporting to management in relation to corporate mission and goals. Responsibilities include the following:

  • Creates and maintains corporate bidding templates for preparing service proposals
  • Educates project staff on template use and updates
  • Review Requests for Proposal (RFP) and prepares service proposals and bids
  • Examines requirements and solicits knowledgeable input from respective fields to ensure fully responsive proposal for new sponsors; Identify information for proposal text and budget development and work closely with proposal development team to prepare and finalize proposals
  • Evaluates project resource costs and requirements and internal management budget against final pricing decision
  • Incorporates customized proposal presentations, pricing structures, and service options to accommodate sponsor-specific needs as necessary
  • Creates, manages, and maintains tracking database that collects, stores and reports key business information
  • Reviews proposals for existing sponsors against standard template assumptions to ensure costing consistency and accuracy
  • Manages inter-office and project team relations, communications, and training efforts to ensure policies and procedures are followed and information is shared appropriately to support continuous alignment with corporate mission.
  • Creates systems that optimize and facilitate continuous feedback among project teams and satellite offices with special consideration and attention to critical decision and control points.
  • Gathers and presents detailed corporate business data to management on a regular basis
  • Maintains corporate central repository of all proposals and contracts



BA/BS Degree required with 2-3 years of experience in a CRO setting desired.  The successful candidate must have superior writing, research, and critical-thinking skills and be comfortable in a deadline-driven environment. Exceptional organizational and communication skills, as well as the ability to work with teams to accomplish projects is a must.  Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite along with advanced level Excel skills is required.
