Southern Bank is searching for a seasoned Human Resources professional that administers and conducts recruiting, new employee orientations and handles employee relations for non-exempt employee population. Serves as Payroll and Benefits Administrator back-up. Provides advice and counsel, as well as interpretation, to managers and employees on HR workplace policies, procedures and practices in order to:

  • Ensure compliance with federal and state employment laws, company workplace policies and corporate values;
  • Build an engaged workforce;
  • Continuously improve the leadership skills of our management team; and
  • Support business strategies and goals.

DUTIES

  • Promotes the Bank's culture, mission and values and encourages teamwork by coaching and providing Human Resources support throughout the organization.
  • Handles non-exempt employee relations.
  • Administers non-exempt employee recruitment including management assistance with compliance with legalities related to recruiting and starting salary recommendation and promotional pay adjustments.
  • Coordinates activities/job responsibilities of the (ADP)Payroll & Benefits Administrator and Human Resources Assistant.
  • Administers and monitors Human Resources policies and procedures which may include internal job posting, Family and Medical Leave Act, National Mortgage Licensing System registration, Affirmative Action Plan, employee complaints/investigations, and the Employee Assistance Program.
  • Maintains current knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements impacting Human Resources. Laws may include but are not limited to FLSA, ERISA, FMLA, ADA, Title VII and Civil Rights Act.  

         * Conducts new employee orientations as needed. *

QUALIFICATIONS

knowledge/skills/Abilities required:

  • Ability to coach/support Human Resources staff members.
  • Knowledge of Human Resources related laws and regulations.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision, and seek assistance as needed.                        
  • Personal credibility and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills.
  • Proficient in using a personal computer and general business software including Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint).
  • Payroll system experience required; strongly prefer ADP experience.
  • Must be detail-oriented.
  • Proven experience with planning, organizational, analytical, problem-solving, leadership, negotiation, facilitation and presentation skills.
  • Must present a professional image.

Education/Experience requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in business or related field or equivalent work experience.
  • Ten years of progressive Human Resources experience.
  • Banking/financial industry experience is Preferred!
  • Current knowledge of federal and state labor laws and Human Resources policies and practices.
  • Superior analytical skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with excellent presentation skills.
  • Independent and self motivated. Ability to effectively manage time and to manage multiple priorities.
  • Superior customer relations skills. Must be able to establish and maintain a high level of credibility with all levels of internal staff and external vendors.
